Wright Family Reunion in Texas

We found out my parents were going to visit Micah and Christie in Texas so we called and invited ourselves to come too! We decided better to try and make the drive before we have 2 kids to fight! When Jonah found out we were going he decided to come too. It was so much fun. It has been a long time since we have all been together and I was just so happy to see my family and get to spend time with them. It was definitely worth the drive! Plus, we got to meet Micah and Christie's baby, Grant for the first time and see my Grandpa and Grandma Wright and my Aunt Janice. It was such a great week.

Christie took my mom and I shopping at Sam Moon and we found these fabulous shoes. (yes the socks are actually attached to the shoes). I think she looks great!

Although there weren't any kids for Davis to play with, he sure enjoyed the time with his Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt and Uncles. He recruited everyone to play with him, build train tracks and read books. They were all good sports and spent lots of quality time with him. He loved every second (don't mind the underwear shot!).

Whenever Grant was awake, Davis wanted to 'hold it' (for some reason he hasn't figured out baby gender yet and calls all babies 'it'). He keeps saying how he loves Grant (I don't think Grant is so sure!). They are the first Wright cousins. I don't see much resemblance...kind of like Micah and I!

We left to drive home on the 15th, Davis' birthday, so Aunt Christie and Uncle Micah made cupcakes for him before we left. He ate them and then asked where his presents were. I think he has this birthday thing down!

Thanks for a wonderful, spontaneous family reunion, Wright family! We love you all so much and are so grateful that we were able to spend time with you. Can't wait for next time!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Davis!!

Davis turned 3 (I CAN NOT believe this!) on December 15th. Since we were going to be traveling on his actual birthday, we had his birthday party on the 5th. For a couple weeks, I think he thought it was his birthday every day...he'd get a present in the mail from someone or have cupcakes for his birthday at preschool and think he got to have his party all over again. We decided to do a friend party this year for the first time. I was thinking It's a Saturday during Christmas season, I bet a lot of kids won't be able to come, so I will invite a bunch of them. Well, I started to panic a couple days before when not one mom had called to say they couldn't come. We ended up having 18 two, three and four year olds (yes, at our house). It was a crazy couple of hours but we were pretty organized and it went way better than I thought it would! We made gingerbread houses, played games (at least the older kids did), had lunch, cupcakes, opened presents and had a treasure hunt. I thought it was a success and I think Davis and all the kids had fun. He sure has talked a lot about it since then. I didn't take very many pictures due to the chaos but here are a few.

The first present he opened was a Thomas Train and he was so excited about it he just wanted to play with it and didn't want to open any other presents. The kids were so excited for him to open their present they brought and he was not having it. It was a little chaotic.

Light Up Louisville

We just got back from our trip to Texas and I had several chidings from family members to keep up better on my blog...I am glad that someone cares and actually reads it! So, I am committing to do a better job on this. So, here goes a little catch up!

We went to 'Light up Louisville' with our great friends, the Madsens on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It was fun...mostly because of the company...when I go to things like that here (no offense to anyone from Louisville) I remember where I live! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it here, but it's just different and the events sometimes aren't so great. Okay, I sound really snobby right now so I'll stop. Anyhow...here are some pictures of our fun night!

Happy Halloween!

We had a fabulous Halloween, not only the day of but the whole week leading up to it. I think Davis dressed up at least 4 times and now wants to trick or treat everyday and put on his Cowboy costume. He definitely got into the spirit...the spirit of treats, that is! Michelle hosted us on Halloween night and all of the cousins got to trick or treat together. Okay, maybe more by age group! Davis and Josh went together but Davis was a much more exuberant trick or treater than Josh! He ran to every door and had the whole thing down...what to say and when! He didn't want to stop when we were done. Now we are all enjoying the fruits of his labors!

Family Halloween Party

While Stacy and her family were here, we had a fabulous family Halloween Party. The kids (and some adults, minus myself...you know how I hate to dress up) dressed up, we had games, great food and of course, treats. Good times were had by all.

A Visit to Huber's Pumpkin Patch

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather a couple of Saturdays ago and headed up to Huber's Farm to pick some pumpkins. Davis is at an age where it is just so fun, it is all new and exciting to him and he actually gets what he is supposed to do! He had a hard time deciding which pumpkin he wanted to take home with him. The deciding factor ended up being size because he couldn't carry most of the pumpkins he tried to pick! The picture below shows the winner:

Everytime he sees his pumpkin on the porch when we drive up, he says 'There's my pumpkin, mom'. I think it will be a sad day when the pumpkins get old and have to be thrown away!

A couple of projects

So here are a couple of projects I have recently finished....FINALLY the 'candle' quilt. I spilled a melted candle on this a couple of years ago when I was first working on it. We did everything we could to get it out, but after finishing it and washing it, it sort of looks like a kid might have went pee pee on it. You can't tell unless you really look closely. I am really happy with how it turned out. So fun to actually have a finished quilt that I did all by myself, start to finish! (It only took like 3 years! Hopefully the quilt I am doing for baby girls room doesn't take that long.).

The Moons have been staying with us so I made my beautiful niece, Mylee an Aunt Summer special apron while she was here. I think she liked it...she wore it all night when I gave it to her! I really liked the fabric on this one.

Happy Monday

I hope everyone had a conference weekend. We listened to most of it over the internet because the cable channel wasn't working on our main TV. It was great especially during Davis' naptime so we could really pay attention!

Our brother in law Sheldon is staying with us for a few weeks doing a medical school rotation at UofL. It has been nice to have him around! He helped us..okay he did most of the painting of our basement on Friday. I have been planning this room re-do for a few months and had everything ready to go (we didn't paint down there when we moved in and the color has been killing me). I love how it turned out. I'll have to post some pictures. Sheldon, you are amazing and you can stay with us anytime!

We watched Jen and Keith's 4 kids while they went on a trip for their anniversay last weekend (Friday night through Tuesday). It was really fun and I loved getting to spend the time with the kids. Lets just say it was complete chaos. I have a new found respect for people with several kids. I don't think I am cut out for it! They are such great kids, it is just busy and they are busy and wow, I was tired when it was over! I'm so glad that Keith and Jen got to have a trip together.

Davis is loving his playgroup/preschool class he goes to at my work on Wednesdays. He keeps telling me he goes to school on Wednesday and church on Sunday. He was a little upset when we didn't go to church yesterday. His current obsession is trains, especially the Thomas trains-and we don't have any of those. I think they are ridiculously expensive and haven't come across any in my bargain hunting so he loves to go to Aunt Jen's or to Jo's to play with them. He does stay busy with the great Ikea train set that Grandma Wright got him awhile back.

Baby Girl is just kicking away these days. I have been feeling so good, I am trying to enjoy this phase of pregnancy, before I get too huge and miserable. I am almost done with the 'candle' quilt and I will post a picture when I finish the binding later this week. Then I have to get started on her room quilt and bumper. Can I just say I love the internet? I really have no idea how to do this stuff, but you can find a tutorial for almost anything!

Pictures of the Little Lady

Okay, I finally got Steve to scan these for me. The first one is a 3D picture and I think they are a little creepy looking, but it is really interesting. We didn't get these with Davis so I just think it is crazy. It was really cool to see them during the actual ultrasound. Apparently when you are further along, they are super amazing and you can really see what they look like. It took awhile to get these facial shots because she had her face stuck in the placenta! I think she is pretty cute, though.

I really can't believe it! I am so excited. I really wanted it to be a girl and I really thought it was, but I didn't dare hope...we just don't have great girl odds in our family! Steve wanted it to be a boy so that we would have 2 boys together, so I think he was pretty shocked. I am just happy as could be and now I can't wait for her to get here. But so much do...so many things to make!

I can't get my scanner to work so when Steve gets back in town I will have him figure it out and scan her cute pictures for you all to see.

Random Pictures of what we've been up to...

I am officially the worst picture taker ever, but here is a little of what we have been up to lately...

Davis was climbing over the railing of his crib every day so we decided to go for the toddler bed so he didn't break his head open one of these times (the crib sure was nice while it lasted!). He is enjoying the freedom, unfortunately! We had several days without naps which wasn't fun for anyone. We finally turned his door knob around so we can lock him in his room until he falls asleep. So now, he plays around for awhile and finally falls asleep since he can't get out.

This is the result of no naps. Steve took Davis for a run at about 6:30pm and he fell asleep.

This is me and my cutest niece Eva on her fourth birthday. I made this apron for her birthday present. She wears it well!

My greatest friend Carrie and her husband Bob came down Chicago to spend Labor day weekend with us. We had a great weekend and it was so fun to spend time with them. I didn't take very many pictures but we did stop for a pose at the temple after church.

We also fit in a mean game of pounce with Jenny and Keith. We are still waiting for a rematch after some close games.

We had a surprise visit from our friend Brett a couple of weekends ago. He and Steve went to grad school together and the two of them together just crack me up. He flew into Kentucky just for the day and stopped by. It was so fun to see him.

Last but not least a shot of my crazy and beautiful miamaid young women class. We had an activity at my house a few weeks ago and as wild as they are I just love them!

I also have to mention how excited I am about BYU football this season. What a great way to open the season the last 2 games have been. The hardest part is how we don't get very many games on TV here. We have to enjoy the games we do get. I love my Cougars!

Lastly, we find out the gender of our baby on Tuesday. I am pretty anxious to find out. You know how I love to plan and get ready for these things. Any predictions?

Pictures of Davis

A few weeks ago, my amazingly talented friend, Michelle, (you can see how crafty and talented and amazing she is here) took Davis' pictures. Lets just say he wasn't super cooperative but so many of them still turned out so cute. I hadn't gotten his pictures taken since his 1st birthday (and he is my first kid...the rest of our kids don't even have a chance!!) probably because he was even less cooperative that time and I dread it. So, I figured it was time. Here are some of my favorites....

What a handsome, fun-loving, full of personality, amazing kid he is. I just love him to pieces. The first one is my very favorite. It kind of encompasses what Davis is all about!

OOPS!

I wanted to cut Davis' hair a little shorter (since it is so fun to wrestle him..I mean cut his hair). So I thought I would just go one guard shorter for each spot I do. Anyway, I used a three on the top, fine. Then I did one swipe of the one guard on the bottom and was really sad...it was really really short and I had to buzz his whole head. I just can't get used to and I miss his hair. Okay for a summer time cut, I guess but I really want his hair to grow back. QUICK!

Some Summer (time) Projects

So my wonderful and amazing sister in law that we live basically down the street from had the greatest suggestion of getting together once a week with our other nearby (and equally as amazing!) sister in law and doing crafts/sewing projects during the summer. We have had such a good time and it has gotten me on a major sewing kick. I just can't seem to stop. Last week, Jenny and I sewed all afternoon, went to Young Women's then came back and sewed till 1:30am. Love it. We don't really know how to sew, (at least we don't know how to use a pattern) but we have just been teaching ourselves and using tutorials on-line. They are so great. Exactly what I need-step by step directions and pictures. I thought I would show off some of the things that I have made with the girls and on my own.

These bags were probably one of my favorite projects. Not too hard and SO CUTE!

My mom taught me to make these aprons when I went home this summer. Not a great picture but they are seriously so cute.

This bag was our hardest project so far-this was the 1:30 in the morning project. Pretty intense but I was really happy with how it turned out.

I love Wood Connection in Utah. Miss it! I got the stuff for this clock when I was home this summer.

I still have a bunch of things I am working on and a bunch of things I want to do. Plus, once I find out what this baby is I am going to have to go crazy making baby stuff. Love the sewing bug!
