Introducing Emery Jae Larsen

We welcomed Emery Jae Larsen to the world on January 29, 2010 at 4:37pm. She weighed in at 7lbs 8oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. The delivery was amazing...so much easier than with Davis! I was induced and the whole process took about 8 hours. So short! She is beautiful and we are so glad that she is here.

Davis came to the hospital to meet his little sister for the first time. When we asked him who she was, he said 'That's baby Emery. She came out of your belly.' I thought that was pretty good understanding from a 3 year old!

So Sad!

A couple of weeks ago, we had a little 'incident' when some friends were over and Davis got pushed into our train table and hit right below his eye. It was immediately swollen with blood under the skin probably an inch off his face. This is how it looked the next morning, and these pictures do not even do it justice. It looked horrible. It couldn't even look at him because it made me so sad. His eye was swollen half way shut and the bruising was terrible. It has been a little over 2 weeks and it is finally almost gone, but he had a good black eye for awhile. Poor kid. The funny part was when people would ask him what happened, he would tell them exactly who pushed him and that he had a black eye. It kind of made me laugh! So glad it is looking better.

Baby Shower

My amazing sister in law, Jenny, along with the help of some wonderful friends, threw me a baby shower on Saturday. It was all about pink and girly and I loved it! So fun to spend time with so many people that I love and of course to get some beautiful gifts for the little miss. Thank you so much to everyone who came and for your help and generosity! I love you! (My friend Michele made the invites which were so so cute and I tried to scan them, couldn't get it to work, had Steve try to scan it and somehow it screwed up our entire computer which has still not been fixed...so anyway, no invitation on here. But take my word for it, they were amazing!)

Baby Update

So I had an ultrasound this afternoon to determine the baby's position and the breech thing was a false alarm! She is head down and in good position. AND she is still a girl (I read a story recently on my friend Erin's blog about her cousin who was having a girl and when the baby was born, turned out to be a boy. I have been having dreams about her being a boy since then....so glad she is still a girl!) My Dr. was sick today so I didn't get to talk to her, but the Dr. I saw thought that she was probably just too high to feel her head the last few weeks. I am not even dialated to a one, so I guess now is when I get to test my patience. My body isn't so good at the whole dialating thing, so I probably have a good wait ahead of me. Sigh. Have I mentioned I hate the last month of pregnancy? Just thought I would mention it again. I hate it. Patience, patience, patience!

Waiting for the Little Miss

I realized this week that I have not taken one picture of myself pregnant this time around...mostly because I don't really like looking at myself pregnant (does anyone?) but I felt bad, so here I am at 36 weeks in all my belly glory. I think I am smaller than I was with Davis, but maybe its just because I am used to being pregnant this time. Don't get me wrong, I feel HUGE, but it just doesn't seem quite as bad this time. I found out at my Dr.'s appointment this week that she is probably breech, or at least transverse so I am getting an ultrasound on Monday to determine her position for sure. Then, we have to decide when to try to turn her. I think we are going to wait until the end, but we will see what the Dr. says. I am thinking lots of 'head down' thoughts as I really really don't want a c-section. Keep your fingers crossed! I am pretty ready for her to get here, though. I am a big whiner about the last month of pregnancy and I pretty much HATE it! Plus, I am just excited to meet this little girl. I can't wait for her to get here!

I have had lots of requests to post pictures of the baby's room. I am just about finished (finally!) so here they are. I have been a little obsessed with this room and have had so much fun putting it together. I made pretty much everything and it has been fun to see how 'cheaply' I could do it! I got lots of stuff from Goodwill and re-purposed or re-did it. I made all the bedding and it was a lot of sewing 'firsts' for me, and with some trial and error I am really happy with how everything turned out. I have to give Steve a lot of credit, too. The pictures don't really show the wall detail, but he did all the molding work/painting (I did help, but he was the mastermind and master laborer) how I had envisioned it and it turned out so well. He is really getting pretty handy around the house! I love how willing he is to turn all my ideas into reality. What a trooper. It's funny because the room is pretty small and now that I go in there and it is all finished, it looks pretty simple to me and I can't believe how much work and time went into it! But, I am really happy with the results. I just can't wait until we have a baby to put in there!

Funny Pics of Davis

Some friends and I had a sewing/craft night the other night and we talked a lot about blogging/scrapbooking/journaling...I was feeling super guilty because I have not kept up on scrapbooking and such (and Davis is my first kid...the rest of them don't have a chance!). I mean, he doesn't even have a baby book. I am a serious slacker. BUT, my friend showed me her book that she had printed of her blog and it was so cool! It made me feel better because I have (sort of) kept up with blogging and it is a great journal of our family, so now I can't wait to get it printed. It also inspired me to be a better blogger and keep up with it more. So, I guess that is going to be one of my 'resolutions' of 2010.

So...here are some funny recent pictures of Davis. We have 1:00pm church right now and this is how I found him about 45 minutes after we got home. The no nap thing is so hard! He is all cuddled up with a 'Thomas' book Grandpa and Grandma gave him for his birthday.

Steve got new basketball shoes for Christmas (I keep waiting for him to get released as basketball coach since he has 4 callings right now-he was just called as the financial clerk-but I don't know if I'll be that lucky. Even if they do release him, I don't think the amount of basketball being played will decrease too much. He just loves it.). Steve is in love with his new shoes, and so apparently, is Davis. He is going to hate me someday for these underwear pictures, but I think they are hilarious!

Speaking of underwear, I can't believe how hard potty training has been for this guy (or for me!). He is too smart for me and too stubborn, I guess. We are back to diapers after 2 months of potty. I finally decided to take a break (for me and for him!) and life has been MUCH happier at our house. We are going to try again in a month or two. For now I am enjoying much better behavior and some peace.

Christmas and New Years

We had such a nice Christmas home together as a family. It has been so fun to see Davis learn about Santa and Jesus' birthday and get excited about presents and everything else that comes with the Christmas season. On Christmas day we opened presents and had a fabulous breakfast made by me!!

The presents before we got started. Steve and I got a new TV for Christmas that has been set up in our basement since Thanksgiving so there was not a lot of gift opening for us. Davis, however made out like a bandit and I hope he enjoyed his last year of being the only child and getting lots of good stuff!
It was all about trains this year at our house. The kid is a serious addict and can't get enough of them. After every present he opened he said 'wow, that's cool!'

We spent Christmas night, the night after, New Years Eve and Day doing a lot of this: (playing games). We have taught a bunch of our friends to play our favorite card game, Pounce and we can't get enough. Thanks for playing with us everyone!

On New Years we went to lunch with Michelle and Christian and then played games with Keith and Jenny. Davis spent New Years like this:

He would not take this off and they let him wear it home so we didn't have to deal with a midnight tantrum. He woke up the next morning asking to wear the Mr. Incredible outfit. I love how ridiculous he looks!

We have had a great Christmas 'break' and even got all of our Christmas decorations put away yesterday. We are happy for the New Year and look forward to 2010 with a new addition to our family and great possibilities. Happy New Year everyone!
