Why I love JulieKaye

If you don't know who JulieKaye is, you should! Not only is she one of my dearest friends, she is a miracle worker! On Tuesday I made the trek down to Orem so she could work her magic on my hair. All I have to say is bless her. Since I went short (as in short hair), I have realized that the usual 8 weeks between getting my hair done is too long and I was going crazy because I can't pull my hair up when it is short but too grown out and driving me nuts. Anyway, I know that no one really cares about my hair woes besides me, but I just have to say I am so grateful for a fabulous hair dresser (and more importantly, friend) who I love for many many reasons! Isn't is nice to go get your hair done and just feel pampered? Love it. As JulieKaye says, you wear your hair everyday. It is your most important accessory and you need to feel good about how it looks!! I think those are good words of wisdom!

A gross story

This actually happened a couple of weeks ago, but I just remembered and it made me giggle to myself so I had to post it! Most of you know I am somewhat of a germ freak. Well, that makes my job as a mom a little difficult sometimes. So my little brother, Jonah, was in town visiting and we were all over at my parents playing Pounce (our favorite card game of all time). Davis was playing on the floor and enjoying himself, and I'll admit we weren't paying much attention to him because our game was really intense and we were super into it. In between hands, I look around to see where Davis is. Well, he was sitting only a few feet away on the kitchen floor, happily munching on the dog's nasty, slobbery, chewed up bones. He had one in each hand and was just happy as a clam, chomping away on them. GROSS! I can't think of many nastier things. Everyone wanted to take a picture of him eating the dog bones, but I couldn't let him have them for one more second, so I immediately took them away and washed out his mouth, as if that might help. So, no picture. But it was pretty hilarious. I guess I need to pay more attention to my kid!

First Word!!

This is an exciting day for the speech pathologist in me! People keep asking me if Davis is walking (he isn't yet). I don't really care so much about when he walks as I do about talking! I think today we had our first real word. He was at Grandma and Grandpa Wright's last night and my Dad told us when we picked him up that he kept going over to their dog's kennel and saying 'dog'. I didn't really believe it until I heard it today so I had to get it on video! I am also pretty sure he said 'uh oh' yesterday after I said it. Oh, the excitement! We are going to have to start building his vocabulary immediately! He is sure to be a language over-achiever! Steve always jokes about how Davis is in speech-pathology boot camp.

Happy New Year!

A lot of people talk about being sad that the holidays are over...I'm not glad necessarily, but I really like having a new year, purging my house of all the holiday decorations, throwing out all the junk food in my pantry and eating better, etc. I love the holiday decorations, but I also love taking them down-my house feels so clean and fresh! It is also nice to go back to work- (I know I am not supposed to say that, but it is true!!) it is good to be back in the regular routine. I am not really one for making new year's resolutions-I prefer to makes goals year-round. I guess the thing I am really working on right now is getting ready for the Moab Half Marathon in March. Steve and I are both running it-I am so proud of him for wanting to do it and training so hard. I have been doing a lot of weight lifting which I have never really been in to and I am loving that.

We had a really fun New Years Eve. We went to our friends, the Gardners, and they threw a great party. I did really well through Christmas not eating too much (being sick helped!) but New Years Eve did me in. The food was so good and we ate way too much! Steve had to work on New Years Day since they have year end going on, so he missed out on all that football!

We survived Christmas!

We had a great Christmas day at the Larsen's. It was so good to be feeling better and able to eat! My parents ended up coming to the Larsen's with us and it was fun to have them there since they didn't have any kids coming over. We enjoyed getting to know Samantha's fiance, Jon, better. We played a mean game of pounce-Stacy and Sheldon won with Steve and John in a close second, but I am pretty sure that they all cheated!


Davis enjoying one of his new Christmas toys. This turns into a little 'walker' and he is getting pretty good at walking behind it.





Davis did much better at opening his presents on Christmas than he did on his birthday. He actually participated a little bit! As you can see, I think he enjoyed the paper more than the actual presents...whatever makes him happy, right?!

We did have one small Christmas crisis (besides the flu). I wanted to start a new tradition of having Christmas breakfast, so I planned this great egg omlet casserole and orange rolls, etc. Well when I got up on Christmas morning to make breakfast, there were only a couple of eggs left-about half of what I needed to make the casserole. I had bought the eggs only 3 or 4 days before, so someone (I won't mention any names, Steve) had gone on an egg eating rampage apparently. Well, I had a breakdown and told Steve he had better find some eggs, and quick! So he got on his boots and went to 4 different stores, all of which were closed, then finally found some at the Tesoro. Thanks Tesoro, for saving Christmas morning!

A Postponed Christmas Eve

For Christmas Eve, we got sick! Davis had the flu first, then passed it to me and my mom and now Steve has finally gotten it. We had to postpone our Christmas Eve celebration at my parents house since we couldn't keep anything down. We had our own little celebration at our house. Mostly Steve and Davis playing together!

Christmas Time Going Ons

We have had such a nice Christmas season. Steve has been able to take off a few days which has been fabulous and we have enjoyed spending time together and with our family. We went to the symphony kids Christmas concert last Saturday with the Larsen/Black clan and it was beautiful. Davis even enjoyed it (for the 1st 15 minutes, anyway!). The man in front of us kept giving me dirty looks b/c Davis was making noise and I wanted to tell him it was a kids concert for crying out loud. Anyway, thanks to grandma Larsen for the great symphony tickets!

We risked our lives driving through a huge snow storm during rush hour to Lehi to attend the Black Family Christmas party (Steve's mom's family). It had been awhile since the Black's had gathered and it was great to see everyone-once we finally got there-and all in once piece, thank goodness!
