Happy Birthday, Steve!

Yesterday was Steve's 31st birthday! He went golfing at 5:30am in the rain (now that is a dedicated golfer!), we had crepes and chocolate milk for breakfast, watched a movie, went and hit balls at the driving range (yes, he's obsessed!) and then we had a fun family party at my parents house. It is nice to have your birthday fall on a holiday, a day off from work!

Steve is the best dad and husband. Everyday I feel so blessed to be married to him and to learn and grow with him. He helps me to be a better person and does so much to take care of us and make me happy. He truly is an example of all that is good! Happy birthday, babe. I love you so much!

Davis is a Talker!

I wanted to write down all the words that Davis is saying (you all know that my speech-pathologist side gets really excited about this!) so here is a list of all that I can think of:

He also says more, please, and milk in sign language! If you ask him what his name is he says 'D'. It is the cutest thing ever! He is trying to copy lots more things...I have him pretty well trained...when I tell him 'say ___' he will try and say it! I am so proud of my little talker!

An unexpected surprise

I got to work this morning and there were news vans all over the place...well it turns out one of the water mains broke in the school and flooded the whole main floor. Not good, but happy for me school was canceled and now I have the whole day with nothing to do! I can't complain about that (even though it is rainy and we can't go out an play)...an unexpected day off work is always welcome.

Are leashes really all that bad?

Whenever I have seen a child wearing one of these 'child protection devices' (otherwise known as kid leashes), I have secretly been appalled. I can't believe a parent would have to resort to such a thing to control their child...and the poor kid, looking like a little puppy. Well, I have given in to the fact that I can not control my child. I have given into the fact that he is an independent soul that will not be told what to do. In fact, when told what to do, such as 'stop' or 'don't run in the road' or 'come this way', he instead runs faster and in the opposite direction, towards whatever road he can find. He also despises the stroller (as long as I keep moving, he will be calm, but the second I stop, he is hollering and throwing a fit to get out). For all of these very good reasons, I have resorted to leash. He is happier and I am happier. He can run and I can try to keep up but at least he can't get away. It's a win win-he thinks he is being somewhat independent and I think that he is safer. I just have to learn to put up with the terrible looks from everyone around me-looking at me as though I am an abusive parent to walk my child around like a puppy.

Christie graduates

We are so proud of our sister-in-law, Christie who graduated from the U of U with her bachelors degree 2 weeks ago (I know, I am a little behind, but I was teasing Micah and Christie that I put a lot more about them on my blog than they do on their own. So maybe they'll step it up!) Christie worked full time, went to school full time and was young womens president all at the same time and I think she is amazing that she survived it all. Micah and Christie left yesterday to move to Texas. It was really hard to say goodbye to them and we miss them already.

Happy Mothers Day!

I just wanted to give our moms a little shout-out in honor of mothers day this week. Not only are they the best moms, they are the best grandma's and Davis loves them as much as Steve and I do.
My mom (Janice) is one of the most amazing people I know...she has overcome so many things in her life and is an example to everyone that it really is possible to get through anything and live a happy and wonderful life. She is the rock of our family and is incredible at showing love and gives so much of herself. I am grateful for her everyday. She also watches Davis while I work (and lots of other times, too!). She is so helpful to me and Davis loves her so much. Thanks to her for taking such great care of him!
Steve's mom (Jill) is an inspiration to us! She is good at everything and is one of the most caring people I know. She has accomplished so much in her life (raising 5 kids, getting her masters degree at 50, losing over 100 pounds etc., etc.), I am just amazed by her. She instantly made me feel like a part of their family and I am so grateful for any time that I get to spend with her. I feel so lucky that we were raised by such wonderful women that have influenced us for so much good. Steve, Davis and I love you both so much! Thank you for all you do and Happy Mother's Day.

Uncle Micah is a Master!

We are so proud of our new BYU masters degree graduate! Micah (my very handsome, awesome brother) received his masters degree in Social Work last Friday from the best school in the state! (I have to add that in whenever I can!) He will be an amazing social worker and we wish him lots of luck in his coming career. His cute wonderful wife Christie graduates from the U tomorrow, pictures of the georgous girl to come!

A couple of side notes...
The Jazz game on Tuesday was painful...please let tomorrow be better. If they lose this series I will lose it !

We have a new American Idol fan in our house-Davis loves to watch...he stands right in front of the TV and dances (the cutest thing ever-he bounces up and down and even sometimes wiggles his bum a little!) I tried to get it on video but he wasn't in the mood at the moment. I'll try again...he has started dancing whenever he hears music. I love it!
